2022 too few games for Xbox, but 2023 should be “exciting”.

In 2022, Xbox didn’t have many releases to offer its players. Phil Spencer agrees, but believes 2023 will be an “exciting year”.

2023 should be different at Xbox than the year before, at least according to CEO Phil Spencer. In an interview with our colleagues at IGN following the recently aired Developer Direct, he acknowledged that 2022 was a rather disappointing year for Xbox gamers. However, the Xbox boss was enthusiastic regarding the things that await users this year.

Spencer feels “good” regarding the dynamics of Xbox

One of the questions asked in the interview by Spencer is how much pressure there is for positive momentum in 2023 following not many major Xbox releases in the last year. The Xbox CEO responded that internally they probably see things a little differently because they already know what they showed at Developer Direct and what’s coming up in another showcase in June. “But our commitment to our fans is that we have to consistently release great games for people to play on our platform. There is no doubt that we did not do this sufficiently in 2022. And basically, that’s on me. I am the head of the company.”

According to the Xbox boss, every year is critical. However, Spencer would “feel good” regarding Xbox’s momentum. “When I think regarding the rest of the work we’re doing this year, it’s going to be an exciting year,” continued Spencer. “From a production standpoint, we’re coming out of the COVID home and I think we as an industry have a better work rhythm and all those things. And I’m thrilled.”
