Nicolás Maduro held a meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

After the meeting there were no statements to the media.

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, met this Friday followingnoon with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, at the Miraflores Palace.

The meeting responds to an invitation made by the national government, whose purpose is aimed at the “execution of mechanisms for constructive dialogue, cooperation, and existing technical assistance between Venezuela and the Office of the High Commissioner,” they reported in a press release.

The meeting was attended by the first lady Cilia Flores; the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Council, Larry Devoe; the chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil; and the Vice President of Communication, Culture and Tourism, Freddy Ñáñez.

It was not known what the two talked regarding, since there were no statements to the press, only a video in which those present greeted each other once they arrived in Miraflores.

Before the meeting with Maduro, Türk was with the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, as well as with Alfredo Ruiz, Ombudsman.

Then he was with the Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez and Foreign Minister Yván Gil, there “they reviewed the advances in the field of human rights, while the need to lift the illegal sanctions once morest Venezuela was transmitted.”

Volker Türk’s work schedule, which will run until Saturday, January 28, in addition to including meetings with government authorities, also includes conferences with representatives of civil society organizations, human rights defenders, heads of agencies, funds and programs for the UN and diplomats.
