Snow and freezing wet: DWD warns of ice in Bavaria

– Motorists should exercise caution on Franconia’s roads on Friday, the German Weather Service warns of the danger of black ice. But that’s not all: A real cold front will cross the Free State at the weekend.

Beware of the danger of slipping: The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of slippery snow or freezing wet throughout Bavaria on Saturday. Also on the night of Saturday, motorists have to be prepared for slippery areas due to freezing wet or locally freezing drizzle.

Saturday itself is supposed to be very cloudy, with temperatures around plus four to minus two degrees. Initially, snow should only fall near the Alps.

Frosty nights and snow on the way

But then it also gets crisp in Franconia: “On the clear Sunday night it cools down considerably to -8 degrees,” says Stefan Ochs, also known as the Franconian weather ox. A maximum of zero degrees is reached during the day.

According to meteorologist Jan Schenk from The Weather Channel, the snow cover will increase massively over the weekend, especially in the Alps and the low mountain ranges. “In the Alps we can see that we will have snow depths of up to one meter next Monday. And we haven’t had that for a long time,” emphasizes Schenk. On Monday, according to his information, models will show storm winds. At higher altitudes you even have snowstorm conditions. “So please be careful!” warns the expert.

But white flakes can also fall once more in the region on Monday. “The frost line is 450 meters,” explains the Franconian weather ox. He also expects strong winds.
