Total Energies: Towards the installation of electric charging stations in the majority of stations

The Total Energies group plans to install electric charging stations in the majority of its service stations distributed in the various governorates, as part of its strategy to develop its investments in Tunisia, said the Africa director. marketing and services, Jean-Philippe Torres.

During a meeting held on Thursday with the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines, Neila Gounji, the official recalled that Total Energy currently has 18 service stations equipped with electric charging stations and 56 stations equipped with solar collectors.

He underlined that the group will pursue the development of its projects in Tunisia and the investment in clean and environment-friendly energies, in particular, through the development of electric mobility infrastructures.

Note that customs duties on electric vehicle charging equipment have been reduced to 10% while value added tax has been reduced to 7%, from January 1 to December 31, 2023, according to the article 24 of the 2023 finance law, published on December 23 in the JORT.

“The objective is to promote the use of cars running on alternative energies, to promote the green economy and to accelerate the development of the electric transport sector in Tunisia”.

According to a study published in 2021 by the Ministry of the Environment, the deployment of 50,000 electric vehicles by 2025 and 130,000 by 2030 would avoid 2.2 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent ( MtCO2e) of greenhouse gas emissions.

“This is likely to lead to a drop in oil consumption of 5.9 million barrels by 2030, or a reduction in fossil fuel imports of $660 million over the period 2020-2030,” according to this document. titled “The Economic Case for Mitigation in Tunisia: Case Studies in the Transport, Industry and Waste Sectors”.
