Anxious to make the Olympic and Paralympic Games accessible to as many people as possible, the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee (OCOG) is going to set up a solidarity ticket office with the help of the Secours populaire français with the aim of enabling young people and people in precarious situation to live on the spot the fervor of the planetary sporting event.
A In the summer of 2024, Paris, its region and France will vibrate to the rhythm of the Olympic Games (July 26 to August 11), then the Paralympic Games (August 28 to September 8), for what will be neither more nor less than the biggest event ever organized in France.
On this occasion, the OCOG intends to offer popular and accessible Games througha ticket office with a wide and varied price listeven if some unmissable events will remain relatively expensive.
To meet this double imperative, Paris 2024 has thus provided for an entry price of 24 euros for Olympic sports in a proportion of up to 1 million tickets out of the 10 million that will be on sale. In addition, nearly half of the precious sesame intended for the general public will be accessible at 50 euros or less.
Regarding Paralympic sports, some 500,000 of the 3.4 million tickets on offer will be capped at 15 euros, while almost half of general public tickets will be available at 25 euros or less.
The organizers also intend to give public players the possibility of acquiring up to 1 million tickets – i.e. 500,000 for the Olympic Games and 500,000 for the Paralympic Games – within the framework of the social programs coordinated by the said players for young people, priority audiences, or even sports clubs.
Also, in order to further increase this ambition with a social aim, Paris 2024 announced, this Wednesday, January 25, the forthcoming launch of a solidarity ticketing system, in partnership with the Secours populaire français and with the assistance of the entrepreneur Alexandre Mars, Paris 2024 ambassador and member of the Board of Directors of the Games organizing body.
Concretely, at the opening of ticket pack sales on February 15, 2023a donation of a fixed amount of 2 euros will be offered to each buyer when paying for their order.
Subsequently, the donations collected will be donated to the Secours populaire and will therefore allow the association to cover both the purchase of tickets and the travel costs for the people called upon to benefit from this solidarity scheme.
In a press release, the National Secretary of the Secours Populaire welcomed the establishment of this major initiative, while recalling the historical commitment of the association and its 90,000 volunteer facilitators-collectors in favor of sport and access to sport.
As Thierry Robert explained in particular:
The Secours populaire is delighted to benefit from solidarity ticketing, in order to offer young people and people in precarious situations the chance to experience the Olympic and Paralympic Games by attending the sporting events of this global event. We have always placed access to sport at the heart of our solidarity action for more than 78 years.
Sports holidays, swimming lessons, annual licenses, discounts of sports equipment, participation in major sporting events… The range of possibilities offered by the Secours populaire – in conjunction with numerous partners and sports federations – in favor of access to sport is commensurate with its ambition: to democratize these activities with recognized virtues which, however, crystallize strong inequalities.
For his part, the President of the OCOG insisted on underlining the importance of this initiative to strengthen the popular and accessible dimension of the event. whose preparations will accelerate in this year 2023.
As Tony Estanguet put it, repeating the slogan of the 2024 Summer Games :
Paris 2024 has multiplied initiatives to allow people in precarious situations, usually far from major sporting events, to also experience the ‘real’ Paris 2024 Games.
The implementation of the solidarity ticketing system, which we are launching with the help of the entrepreneur Alexandre Mars and the French Secours populaire, allows us to open the Games wide, by giving the general public the opportunity to participate in this outpouring of solidarity.
