The Professional League begins and sportswriters fire up their stances on local teams, their technical directors, new players and those who have been there for a long time. This time the debate got heated when Diego Fucks and Mariano Closs evaluated the role of Fernando Gago in Racing.
This Thursday the journalists of ESPN they crossed paths because of the value they gave to the two titles that Gago got in a few months. For Fucks they were unimportant compared to the local tournament, but this outraged his colleagues.
The crossing intensified in the usual pass between F12 and F90, which has Closs himself and Sebastián Vignolo as drivers, accompanied by a group of panelists who discuss and debate current issues.
The debate heated up when Fucks highlighted the mistakes that, according to his gaze, the “Academy” coach had. His tone was rising as the others considered the statement incoherent.
Closs listened in silence until he interrupted: “Why do you want to invalidate what we think? You want to convince us all that Gago is a mediocre coach, you wanted to convince us that Gallardo is not a good coach, that Gago is not a good coach. What technique do you like? what football do you like? Because almost everything we see, you don’t like.
Facks took the floor and insisted once more on Racing de Gago: “I also like how he plays, but in the decisive moments he fell. Journalism has to have a critical sense, otherwise it is not journalism”.
That was the moment when, with a calm but forceful tone, Closs lost patience and pointed out: “Don’t teach journalism.”
The controversy regarding Racing
The point of debate among sports journalists refers to the value of the titles that Racing obtained. The team led by Gago ended 2022 winning the Champions Trophy and began this year by triumphing in the Al Ain International Super Cup, however, many relativize the value of those championships.
The anger of some is that that same team lost the opportunity to be champion in the Professional League, when it had many chances to take the title.
