All-Star Game: LeBron and Giannis captains, the five known majors
– The Celtics are in a bad patch and the Knicks have taken advantage of it. New York went on to win Boston in overtime, with another very solid game of Julius Randle, who this season regains the confidence and efficiency of 2021. Randle compiled 37 points and 9 rebounds at TD Garden, before returning the shots that guaranteed his team the victory during overtime. The construction carried out by Jalen Brunson is also important (29 pts, 7 wt), with a counter on the last attempt of the C’s.
Jaylen Brown risk thinking back to his two missed shots 7 seconds from the end of the 4th quarter that might have given Boston the victory. This is the first time this season that Joe Mazzulla’s players have lost three times in a row.
– The Nets aren’t doing very well either. They can’t afford to lose at home to Detroit, even in a back-to-back situation, if they want their record without Kevin Durant not to be too alarming. Despite the 40 points of Kyrie Irving and the 27 of Nic Claxton (his NBA record), freshly named holder for the All-Star Game, Brooklyn twisted in the second half, particularly in defense.
The Pistons enjoyed themselves and shot more than 60% to score 130 points. Saddiq Bey (26 pts) and Alec Burks (25 pts) are the two best scorers in Dwane Casey’s group. Detroit hadn’t won in Brooklyn for 5 years.
That’s the Nets tied with Cleveland at 4th East.
– Chicago also commits too many errors of course to really hope for a direct qualification for the playoffs. The Bulls lost to Charlotte, under the blows of Terry Rozier (28 pts), impeccable Mason Plumlee (21 pts, 12 rebounds at 100%) and even though LaMelo Ball was seriously out of order (2/12) in the shoot for his return from injury. Chicago led by 8 points at the break but stopped their effort in the second half…
– Cleveland quietly managed its trip to Houston and made the beautiful operation of the night in the East. The Cavs did most of the work in the first half (+26 at the break) thanks in particular to Darius Garland (26 pts, 9 pds) et Evan Mobley (21 pts), whose scoring has been more consistent in recent weeks.
– Luka Doncic injured his ankle following 3 minutes once morest Phoenix. Despite this, the Mavs have surprisingly managed to impose themselves on the floor of the Suns, who are generally harmless without their superstar. Spencer Dinwiddie (36 pts) and Dorian Finney-Smith (18 pts, 12 rebounds) decided that tonight would not be the case. In a tight game, Dinwiddie’s address at 3 points (5/6) and on the line (11 successful shots) clearly allowed Dallas to survive. After the satisfaction, now comes the anxiety of knowing how long Doncic will be out.
– The Clippers wandered off once morest the Spurs with two very solid performances from Paul George (35 points in 35 minutes) and Kawhi Leonard (27 points in 31 minutes) to win a third consecutive victory and come back close to New Orleans, 4th.
Nicolas Batum played 26 minutes for 9 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
