The Río Negro police added a new complaint for police abuse: this time it happened in Catriel. The complainant said that They kept him in a cell for 8 hours solely for “background investigation”. In the accusation, which was received by prosecutor Leandro López, he recounted that he was beaten at Police Station 9 of that town and that they made fun of him during a large part of his stay in the unit.
The complainant is a 31-year-old teacher from that town. He explained that on Monday he was returning home in the early hours of the morning and went to consult a cash because there was a large operation a few meters from his home. “One of them answered me ‘keep walking’. It was what I did, but before reaching the corner they overpowered me and took me to the police station”. He added that while they were holding his shoulders, one of them yelled at him. “fucking lefty”.
In the penal unit, he consulted what was the reason for the arrest and they told him that it was for background investigation. He explained that he was able to recognize all the troops that They participated in the procedure and that they have already made contact with the prosecutor López.
“Before entering the dungeon, they kicked my legs They insulted me and did not let me contact my family. After several hours of insisting, they let me send a WhatsApp message,” he told RIO NEGRO.
The last public precedent in Catriel was the complaint by a journalist from that town once morest three police officers. In 2021, Nelson Torres, Sergio Inostroza and Fernando Berdugo were sentenced for harassment and breaches of the duties of public officials.
