in Brazil bringing Free Flow toll technology

The Free Flow toll system will become a reality in Brazil as of March 2023. The first collection system that eliminates toll plazas and, therefore, the endless queues that form on highways, will be implemented by Kapsch TrafficCom, an Austrian company global company specializing in intelligent solutions for toll collection, traffic management and urban mobility.

With a significant presence in the mobility and toll management sectors worldwide, the Austrian Kapsch TrafficCom expands its operations in Brazilian cities and highways

Provider of the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) technology, which is already consolidated in countries in Europe, the United States and some countries in Latin America, Kapsch brings the technology to Brazil in line with the advancement of regulation of this system in Brazil. “It is a big step for Brazil towards the so-called “roads of the future”, “says Ramiro Virreira, Kapsch’s vice-president for Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Colombia.

Unlike traditional toll booths, the free flow system does not use guardhouses and gates, eliminating the need to reduce the speed of cars on the roads to pay toll fees. A solution that has an impact on traffic jams due to lane narrowing and stops, vehicle fuel burning and, consequently, CO2 emissions on the roads.

The implementation of Kapsch’s Free Flow technology promises to transform the user’s experience with the highway. “Our goal for 2023 is to bring Kapsch’s technological solutions closer to the needs of Brazilian roads and cities, both in terms of innovative toll systems and advanced mobility management systems”, says Ramiro.
