He sprayed deodorant on his blanket, went to sleep, had a heart attack and died

A teenage girl has died of cardiac arrest from inhaling aerosol deodorant in Britain. The young woman had sprayed her blanket before going to bed.

Giorgia Green was 14 years old and was found unconscious by her brother on May 11, 2022 in her bedroom. Her parents seek to raise awareness regarding the dangers of inhaling aerosols and thus prevent the tragedy from repeating itself.

As published by the BBC, Giorgia was autistic. Her father claimed that the smell of deodorant gave her daughter “a feeling of comfort” and she liked to spray deodorant on her blankets because she found the smell of it comforting.

“Because of his sensory-seeking behavior, he liked to spray his blanket and wrap himself in it,” Paul said. The teenager’s parents assured that she had no pre-existing illnesses: she “was a perfectly healthy and fit girl who has never been seriously ill.”

They added: “Giorgia’s passing has been a totally unexpected shock. We want to share what happened because our daughter sprayed too much deodorant spray.”

“Help us get the word out that the toxic/poisonous chemicals and gases in aerosol cans can kill, this type of death is not limited to children. What we really want is to raise awareness regarding the dangers of aerosol products in the home,” they asked in communication with the Mirror.

“Hopefully, this might prevent more tragedies from happening once more. Our greatest wish is that the passing of dear Giorgia is not in vain.”

From the British Aerosol Manufacturers Association they responded that deodorants have “very clear warnings” on their packages. By law, spray deodorants must carry the warning “keep out of reach of children”. But Giorgia’s parents said the writing was small.

Giorgia’s parents said that the daughter’s behavior, due to her autistic condition, led her to spray this spray when she felt a little anxious, which gave her a feeling of comfort, it was the deodorant her mother used.

“The exact amount (of deodorant) is unclear, but it would be more than you would normally spray. At some point his heart stopped as a result of inhaling it.”

His medical cause of death was “undetermined but consistent with aerosol inhalation,” the BBC reveals.
