California shooting: Pope Francis expresses condolences

The Pope expressed his condolences and sorrow over the shooting in Monterey Park, California, where many people were killed the other day.

In North America, Pope Francis expressed his sorrow and condolences for the shooting that took eleven lives in California. In a telegram signed by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and sent to Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez, Pope Francis conveyed his spiritual presence and sorrow to the victims of the attack and their families.

Cardinal Parolin wrote that the Pope joins in consecrating to God’s mercy on the souls of those killed in the Monterey Park tragedy. The Vatican Secretary of State said in a telegram message that the Pope prays for God’s gifts of healing and comfort for the injured and those who are grieving over the incident. He also wished them the blessing of the Holy Father for the blessing of strength and peace in God.

The heinous attack took place last weekend during the Lunar New Year celebrations. Eleven people were killed and 10 others injured in the shooting at the Star Ballroom Dance Stadium in Monterey Park on Saturday. The 72-year-old attacker was found dead last Sunday. Monterey Park is the fifth mass shooting in North America this month.
