A native of Moscow, Elena Rybakina, representing Kazakhstan, reached the final of the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the Australian Open, which takes place in Melbourne.

In the semi-final, Rybakina defeated Belarusian Victoria Azarenka with a score of 7:6 (7:4), 6:3. The opponents spent 1 hour and 41 minutes on the court.

Rybakina landed three aces once morest Azarenka’s two, made one double fault and won three of her seven break points.

Azarenka has won the Australian Open twice, in 2012 and 2013.

Rybakina received citizenship of Kazakhstan in 2018, last season she won Wimbledon. In the latest version of the ranking of the Women’s Tennis Association, Rybakina took 25th place.

The second finalist of the tournament will be determined in the confrontation between the Belarusian Arina Sobolenko and the Polish Magda Lynette.
