Upgrading the railway section of Nha Trang – Saigon
Accordingly, the project to renovate and upgrade the Nha Trang – Saigon section and the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City railway line (referred to as the Nha Trang – Saigon Project, phase 2) was approved by the Ministry of Transport under Decision No. No. 555/QD-BGTVT dated April 29, 2022.
The project is invested by the Railway Project Management Board with a total expected investment of more than VND 1,098 billion from the state budget in the medium-term public investment plan for the 2021-2025 period.
The investment scope of the Nha Trang – Saigon section (belonging to the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh railway line) has a total length of over 410km. The starting point is at Nha Trang station (Km1314+930) and the end point is at Saigon station (Km1726+200). The project goes through the provinces/cities: Khanh Hoa – Ninh Thuan – Binh Thuan – Dong Nai – Binh Duong – HCMC.
The scale of investment is expected to include renovating and upgrading the national railway of 1,000mm gauge with the following items: Rehabilitation of weak bridges; renovating the upper floor architecture and a number of synchronous construction items (water drainage system); renovating, repairing and building a number of passenger and cargo terminals.
Project completion time is expected to 2025 with 3 construction and installation packages: Package XL-NTSG2-01: Renovating and upgrading section Km1381+930 – Km1419+500 in Ninh Thuan province; Package XL-NTSG2-02: Renovating and upgrading section Km1454+917 – Km1613+510 in Binh Thuan province and Package XL-NTSG2-03: Renovating and upgrading section Km1619+900 -Km1710+900 in Binh province Duong and Dong Nai.
After completing the project, it will contribute to ensuring traffic safety, improving the quality of railway infrastructure; step by step improve the throughput capacity, transport capacity, create favorable conditions in attracting passengers and goods in order to effectively exploit the existing railway infrastructure in the Nha Trang – Saigon section.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the investment and synchronous development of infrastructure, especially traffic infrastructure, is an important task and a top priority of the Party and State. and is one of three strategic breakthroughs.

In order to gradually realize the goal of the 13th National Congress of the Party, the Prime Minister approved the railway network plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
In which, the goal has been determined that by 2030, it is necessary to renovate and upgrade to effectively exploit existing railway lines, and at the same time build a number of railway lines on key corridors, railways connecting seaports, international airport, connecting economic zones, industrial parks… international connection.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that in order for the project to be completed with safety, quality and schedule, the Ministry of Transport needs to focus on drastically directing and requesting investors, supervision consultants and contractors to develop the project. exercise the highest sense of responsibility. Especially, develop construction plans and plans in a scientific, detailed and appropriate manner, ensuring efficiency, construction quality and absolute safety of train operation. In addition, it is necessary to preserve the environment and prevent corruption and negativity. The goal is to complete the project by 2025.
In addition, the Prime Minister also asked all project participants to raise their sense of responsibility to the work, the industry and the people.
The relevant ministries and branches of the Central Government and the People’s Committee of Ninh Thuan province continue to closely coordinate with the Ministry of Transport to create favorable conditions and promptly remove difficulties and obstacles, ensuring security and order. for investors and project construction contractors to ensure progress and efficiency.
Along with the Nha Trang – Saigon Project (phase 2), the Ministry of Transport has approved two projects to renovate and upgrade the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City railway, including: Hanoi – Vinh project (phase 2) will start construction at the end of January 2023, with an investment of regarding VND 811 billion, on a total project length of regarding 319,202km; Vinh – Nha Trang project (phase 2) has a total length of regarding 995,728km, estimated total investment of 1,189,979 billion VND, starting in the first quarter of 2023. All 3 projects will be implemented in 3 years 2022 – 2025.
With the implementation of construction and installation of 3 projects in the mid-term 2021-2025 above, it will continue and promote investment efficiency across the route from projects in the 7,000 billion package, thereby significantly improving infrastructure, creating favorable for transportation development.
