And the richest 1% have a gross wealth of more than 2.24 million euros, while that of the poorest 10% does not exceed 4,000 euros.
Among the areas affected by inequality in France, that of inheritance is particularly striking.
In a survey published Wednesday, January 25, INSEE reveals that half of the population holds 92% of the assets. More specifically, and at the start of 2021, 50% of households had gross wealth (all real estate resources, financial, professional…. Before repayment of loans) greater than 177,200 euros.
Heritage: Strong disparities
Other numbers? The richest 1% have a gross wealth of more than 2.24 million euros. As for the 10% best endowed, it exceeds 716,300 euros.
And the poorest 10% have a gross wealth of less than 4,000 euros, and this drops to 3,000 euros following deducting loans. If real estate represents the major part of the heritage, INSEE indicates that “the 30% of households with the least resources have none or very little”.
Distribution stability
In addition, the richest 1% hold 15% of gross wealth, and the richest 5% 34%. “This distribution of gross wealth is stable compared to that of 2018”specifies the INSEE.
And within the heritage, the professional part related to the activity is the most concentrated, the 5% best endowed having 95% and the 1% at the top of the scale 66%.
Wealth at its highest among the over 60s
Among those under 30, gross wealth is 1.5 times greater than net wealth, which is explained by the fact that they are only beginning to repay their loans.
On the other hand, it reaches 400,000 euros on average among households where the reference person is aged 50 to 59, when the average net wealth is at its highest among those aged 60 and over with 361,400 euros. A heritage that will drop a little in the septuagenarians (343,800) euros.
We still speak of “residual” heritage (remaining 6% of the total) when it consists of the car, household equipment, jewelry or even works of art…
