In August of last year, we commented on a tool that promised to take the macOS Ventura 13 for Mac models that are officially incompatible with the latest version of the system. At the time still in beta, now the stable version of OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) was made available to users, fulfilling the promise.
As we explained, it was not an easy task to make OCLP compatible with macOS Ventura 13, since Apple removed most of the legacy drivers from the system — as this version no longer supports any Mac with CPUsCentral processing unitsor central processing units.”>1 Intel prior to the seventh generation. Despite these restrictions, the latest version of OCLP gives Macs that have been discontinued by Apple a lifeline.
As highlighted above by the developer Mykola Grymalyukthe latest version also expands the range of Macs users can run on macOS Ventura — with support for machines released from 2007 onwards.
Additionally, OpenCore Legacy Patcher 0.6.0 includes support for several hardware and services in macOS Ventura — it’s worth noting that version 0.6.1 is now available with fixes.
The developer pointed out that many of these features are still under active development and therefore may be buggy. So he urges users to “keep expectations in check” and opt for macOS Monterey if they encounter issues with macOS Ventura that affect their use of the machine.
