‘Military support for Ukraine weighs on many military stocks’ explains Nicolas Gosset, expert at the Royal Institute of Defense

Germany should deliver arms to Ukraine. This is in addition to the 500 million euros released by the European Union and promised to kyiv. The announcement may surprise as Germany seemed reluctant to accept this delivery of arms. On the QR set, Nicolas Gosset, expert at the Royal Defense Institute, explains that this reluctance was both technical and political: “Sending this type of material requires very cumbersome logistics and the Germans were worried regarding the Ukrainians’ ability to set up the system and then the reluctance was mainly related to the fact of not assuming a certain form of responsibility alone since this material is german“.

These arms deliveries are not likely to tip the conflict towards a Ukrainian victory, believes Nicolas Gosset. But these heavy tanks are nevertheless essential to reconquer lost territories. What to think of these repeated arms deliveries? Are they not likely to exhaust our reserves? This question must be asked according to Nicolas Gosset: “Military support weighs very heavily on many military stocks such as the Baltic countries, Poland or the United Kingdom“. But our expert insists on the need for this military and financial support. Moreover, for those who think that Europe finds money only for Ukraine, our expert specifies: “Europe has released nearly 800 billion in post-covid aid. For Ukraine, we are at 30 billion, part of which is in the form of a loan. Security and a certain world view at a price“.
