Lorenis Blanco Berrío was 19 years old and the mother of a girl (6) who had to leave her native San Onofre, Sucre, to be able to move to Cartagena and thus take care of her mother’s delicate health in a clinic in Bocagrande.

The young woman had to stay at an aunt’s house, in Turbaco, to keep an eye on her. Every day, without exception, Lorenis went to the clinic to keep up with the treatment.
Today, Tuesday, January 24, was a crucial day. She had to be at the health center at 8 in the morning to authorize a surgical intervention and for this reason she left home shortly before 7 in the morning.
The young woman initially walked a distance and it seems that she miscalculated when she saw the truck because she quickened her pace and began to run. However, she did not give him time to cross and that is when the van hits her with the front of her. When she falls, the young woman is run over by the front tires. Her death was on the spot.
The Police confirmed that the vehicle, white in color and with TVB-420 license plates, was driven by Luis Miguel Castro Arévalo, who turned himself in to the authorities.

In a press release, that road concession regretted the accident, which occurred at 7:05 am in the Turbaco Toll area, and expresses its solidarity with the victim’s family.

“From Autopistas del Caribe we have carried out campaigns and actions in this area of Turbaco jurisdiction with the aim of saving lives and promoting practices that prevent accidents in the corridor.
“We regret that some organizations with political interests are using this tragedy to obtain revenue,” reads a press release.
