Are the Carolina Hurricanes take a big swipe at the exchange market by the trade deadline? Maybe yes, maybe no…
Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell tells our collaborator Pierre LeBrun that there is no rush to act as the team will be without the forward’s services Max Pacioretty for the rest of the season.
The Hurricanes still haven’t put Pacioretty’s name on the long-term injured list, but when they do, they’ll have $10 million in wiggle room.
“We’re definitely in a different position, because now we have the ability to act,” Waddell said. But we still love our team very much. We’ll look and see if there’s anything that makes sense. But otherwise, we’re not looking to make a trade for the sake of making a trade. »
The Hurricanes, who have relied on Pacioretty for just five games this season, currently sit first in the Metropolitan Division, two points ahead of the New Jersey Devils. They’re obviously in good shape for a fifth straight playoff appearance following a two-year drought.
LeBrun revealed last week that the Hurricanes are interested in the Hurricanes forward. Canucks de Vancouver Bo Horvatbut the price asked by the latter was far too high.
LeBrun also added that forwards St. Louis Blues Ryan O’Reilly et Vladimir Tarasenko as well as the striker San Jose Sharks Timo Meier might be in the Hurricanes’ sights.
Meier has scored 27 goals and 20 assists in 48 games so far this season. His salary accounts for $6 million annually on the payroll.
