First infection with the Kraken variant of Covid-19 detected in Ukraine

The first case of the Covid Omicron mutation known as “Kraken” has been detected in Ukraine. The disease has been confirmed in a resident of the Sumy region, says the Ukrainian Ministry of Health.

The new variant bears the official name of XBB.1.5 and is the result of a combination of two shard variants. Named “Kraken”, the strain spreads faster than any of the known Omicron variants so far. Cases have been recorded in 38 countries, most of them in the USA (82.2%), the United Kingdom (8.1%) and Denmark (2.2%).

This strain would be less dangerous, but much more transmissible. According to scientists, it would have a fairly high diversion capacity on people who have been recently vaccinated or who have contracted Covid-19.

It has been reported that Kraken have the same symptoms as Omicron. Either the runny nose, headache, fatigue, sneezing, sore throat, among others.
