Apple Reality Pro: the VR headset would be controlled by finger and eye

The revelations around

Reality Pro

continue. As usual, it is the very famous journalist Mark Gurman of Bloomberg which reveals new details regarding the mixed reality headset from Apple, which should see the light of day next spring.

In a very detailed new report, he dwells on the technologies that should accompany the Reality Pro : operating system, interface, controller and possible uses.

An eye and hand tracking device

Unlike its competitors, notably the

Goal Quest Pro

and the

PlayStation VR2 de Sony
, the Californian giant would do without controllers to control its VR/AR headset. Instead, he would rely on a eye and hand tracking devicewhich consists of a set of 14 cameras and sensors which will film the user’s environment, and follow the movements of their hands and eyes.

So in the operating system interface xrOS
(which would look like iOS or iPadOS but in 3D), the Reality Pro wearer will simply have to gaze on an app to select it, and pinch fingers to launch it.

An emphasis on collaboration between users

For the moment, we do not yet have the details on all the uses that this mixed reality headset can have. But according to Mark Gurman, Apple will favor the collaboration between users of the helmet. There would thus be an advanced FaceTime system that would allow two helmet wearers to meet face-to-face through full-face and full-body avatars. The Reality Pro should also allow watch videos in an immersive way on the big screen, or to work using the headset as a external screen for a Mac.

To power its AR / VR headset, the Apple firm would have opted for a battery external which does

“regarding the size of two iPhone 14 Pro Max stacked on top of each other”
. It can fit in a pocket or be attached to a belt. This battery, offering approximately two hours of battery lifewould connect to headphones via a Magsafe cable.

Finally, the Reality Pro would be billed at the price of 3 000 dollarsbut a more affordable version at 1 500 dollars might quickly join him. Aware that the headset will not be within reach of many customers, Apple would expect to only sellone million units for the first year.
