Michelle Perrot: “Sex relations are breaking down, they have to be rebuilt differently. This is history”

2022 will have been a year of contrasts for women’s rights around the world, between the images of the courage of Iranian women and those of the demonstrations which followed the revocation of the Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court, which constitutionalized the right to abortion, in the United States. These advances and setbacks cannot be read independently of the historical contexts that preceded them, and of the centuries of struggle of feminist movements. This is precisely what historian Michelle Perrot, 94, has studied throughout her career. This dialogue between past and present is the subject of the book The time of feminisms (Ed. Grasset) published on January 18, the fruit of his conversations with one of his former students, Eduardo Castillo.
