France continues to capture the bulk of Moroccan direct investment abroad (IDME). Of the 4.28 billion dirhams of flows made in the first 9 months of 2022, France holds 1.17 billion dirhams. It thus preserves its position as the leading destination country for IDMEs. However, this figure is down compared to the level reached at the end of 2021 which, according to provisional figures from the Foreign Exchange Office, was around 1.45 billion dirhams. The top 3 destinations also include the Netherlands.

The flow of IDMEs at the end of September 2022 in this country of destination for its part stands at 534 million dirhams, thus marking a marked improvement compared to the flow at the end of 2021 and which did not exceed 38 million dirhams. Senegal comes in third place with flows of around 409 million dirhams once morest 316 million dirhams a year earlier. Similarly, IDMEs to the United Arab Emirates are improving. Their flow thus increased from 237 million dirhams at the end of 2021 to 408 million dirhams for the first nine months of 2022. Same trend observed for IDMEs to Cameroon. Their flow rose to 361 million dirhams during the first 9 months of 2022, whereas it was around 19 million dirhams at the end of 2021. IDMEs to Luxembourg also showed a marked improvement. Their flow thus went from a negative balance of -699 million dirhams to +291 million dirhams over the period from January to September 2022. The flow of IDMEs in Burkina Faso stood at around 276 million dirhams once morest 307 million dirhams in 2021.

On the other hand, IDMEs in Côte d’Ivoire saw their flow reach 253 million dirhams at the end of September when they were around 1.24 billion dirhams. There is also a flow of 217 million dirhams from IDME to Switzerland, 206 million dirhams to Gabon, 199 million dirhams to Tunisia and 151 million dirhams to Nigeria. Moroccan investments in Mali relate to a flow of 145 million dirhams at the end of September 2022 once morest 99 million dirhams in Egypt, 84 million dirhams in Congo, 75 million dirhams in Guinea and 73 million dirhams in India. By sector, the majority goes to industries. IDME flows in this direction amounted to 1.86 billion dirhams once morest 2.09 billion dirhams in 2022. This flow is driven by the chemical industry (+762 million dirhams), the manufacture of other non-metallic minerals (708 million dirhams) and furniture manufacturing (227 million dirhams). The food industry monopolizes for its part 94 million dirhams of the overall flow of IDMEs in the first nine months of the year 2022. Automotive manufacturing captures 78 million dirhams of flows.

Financial and insurance activities represent for their part 1.37 billion dirhams of IDME flows made in the first 9 months of 2022 once morest 2.57 billion dirhams in 2021. The IDME flow made at extractive industries climbed to 350 million dirhams at the end of September 2022 once morest 237 million dirhams at the end of 2021. There is also a flow of 173 million dirhams in real estate activity and 53 million dirhams in the construction sector. Similarly, 27 million dirhams of IDME were earmarked for agriculture, forestry and fishing.
