Allowed due to harsh public sentiment… Firecrackers return after 3 years

In China, during the Lunar New Year holiday, there was a custom of setting off firecrackers to ward off bad luck.

It was banned by Chinese authorities a few years ago because of fire and air pollution concerns.

But this year, it is possible, and Correspondent Lee Hae-in in Beijing reported the reason.

People noisily shoot firecrackers towards the beam sky.

Some people set off firecrackers while driving down the road.

Fireworks in the middle of the city also caused severe congestion in various places.

Firecrackers were held all over China ahead of the biggest holiday, the Spring Festival.

The Chinese believe that firecrackers ward off bad luck and bring good luck.

However, in the meantime, firecrackers have been banned in most cities due to high-intensity quarantine policies and concerns regarding fire and air pollution.

It seems that the reason why the ‘firecracker ban’ became ineffective is because of the public opposition.

On the 2nd, in Henan Province, police and citizens cracked down on New Year’s firecrackers clashed.

When the police tried to arrest the person setting off the firecrackers, hundreds of people rushed in and smashed and overturned the police car, asking why they were not allowed to play with firecrackers.

Even though this is unacceptable in China, where public power is strong, many cities have allowed firecrackers on a limited basis following this incident.

It seems that the complaints that have accumulated over the past three years due to high-intensity quarantine can explode even with crackdowns on fireworks.

The People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China, criticized the firecracker ban as “incompetent and violent.” The Chinese authorities also seem to be paying attention to appeasing public sentiment during the Lunar New Year holiday, which was the first time since the With Corona.
