It was more than worth the long wait for their ECM debut album in 2015. Joining forces once more with Swedish pianist Johan Lundvall and newcomer is Australian cellist Judith Hamann, the Mette Henriette Trio creates finely drawn and painted movements, like those painting with colors in water. Sound mixtures, timbres are explored, there is time to listen to them, they draw lines, carefully set accents, in what seems like a zen-like concentration.
It looks like a trip to a deserted, Nordic landscape. Here it gurgles under the frozen surface, there a stalk moves, there ice drifts across the sea and yet it is an exploration of the music itself and has nothing depictive. Flowing, seemingly effortless, yet chiseled – sounds like under a magnifying glass. We slip into this music and marvel at the fantastic world it creates. An album that takes you out of everyday life in no time and takes you far away, and in the end to yourself.
