Porsche 911 SC 3.0 “Safari”, the new fashion?

A few days ago, Porsche officially lifted the veil on the 911 Dakar. Transformed version of the German sports car to make it compatible with real off-road use, this Dakar uses 911 GTS mechanics and benefits from a considerably reinforced chassis. It is inspired by the legendary Safari variants of the 911 and other Porsche 953 (then 959), victorious in rally-raids and even in the Paris-Dakar (1984 and 1986). There is also a real fashion for sports cars with off-road capabilities lately, since Lamborghini has done the same kind of work on its Huracan Dirt.

The 1980 Porsche 911 SC, which will be sold at the 2023 Retromobile show by Artcurial, is also part of this trend. Born simple 911 SC in the United States in Hawaii, this copy then ended up in Sweden and then in Finland. According to Artcurial, it has been fully prepared following being in poor condition with an original approach: that of turning it into a kind of 911 SC Road Safari. The finish of the car is somewhat reminiscent of the work of Singer and all these other new specialists in the restoration of old Porsches updated to the taste of the day: it is equipped with modern bucket seats, large off-road tires and a powertrain passed by Kiveriö customs Oy.

While the Porsche 911 Dakar starts at €226,689, this 911 SC “Safari” at least has the merit of costing a little less. Articurial puts up an estimate of between €125,000 and €175,000, which is still a lot for a 911 SC restored with originality. It will be sold on February 3.
