The San Antonio municipality reported this followingnoon that there will be extraordinary tides in Las Grutas in the coming days, with which it called for taking the pertinent precautions, especially those who park their cars on the beach.
On several occasions the cars have been hit by water, mainly in sectors such as Las Coloradas and Punta Perdices.
But what does it mean that the tides are extraordinary? It means that the sea, that at this point in the gulf atrises and falls twice a day (that’s the famous tidal system)will have an extraordinary height at this time.
Generally, the maximum height to which it reaches when climbing does not exceed 8 meters, but with the ‘extraordinary’ that number is far exceeded. This causes the water to reach places you usually don’t go. And that, when it is withdrawn, it also descends to heights of less than a meter.
The extraordinary tides will occur this Monday 23, Tuesday 24, Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 January. The “extraordinary tides” which will affect an important strip of the San Antonio Bay coastal area.
Hours to keep in mind
– Monday 01/23 – hour 00:38 – height 9.07 m. / hour 13:12 – height 8.87 m.
– Tuesday 01/24 – hour 01:27 – height 9.23 m. / hour 14:00 – height 9.06 m.
– Wednesday 01/25 – hour 02:15 – height 9.26 m. / hour 14:47 – height 9.12 m.
– Thursday 01/26 – hour 3:03 – height 9.14 m. / hour 15:35 – height 9.04 m.
These tides are highly sought following by locals. For example, the coastal collectors of octopus and shellfish. They, at low tide, have the possibility of accessing sectors that are usually covered by water, and that increases their catches.
