As the night fell on the 21st, the first day of the Lunar New Year holiday, congestion on most major highways was lifted.
According to the Korea Expressway Corporation, as of 10:40 on the same day, the Gyeongbu Expressway is congested only in the vicinity of Jamwon and Seocho (3 km) in the direction of Busan.
The Seohaean Expressway, Jungbu Expressway, and Yeongdong Expressway provide smooth two-way traffic.
As of 11:00 PM, the estimated travel time from Seoul to major regional cities is △Busan 4 hours 30 minutes △Ulsan 4 hours 10 minutes △Gangneung 2 hours 40 minutes △Yangyang 1 hour 50 minutes (from Namyangju) △Daejeon 1 hour 30 minutes △Gwangju 3 hours 20 minutes △ Mokpo 3 hours 40 minutes (from West Seoul) △ Daegu 3 hours 30 minutes.

The Korea Expressway Corporation predicted that on the 22nd, the day of the Lunar New Year, 6.12 million vehicles would use the highway during the Lunar New Year holiday. Of these, 490,000 units are expected to move from the metropolitan area to the provinces, and 470,000 units from the provinces to the metropolitan area.
Meanwhile, the Korea Transport Institute predicted that a total of 26.48 million people, or an average of 5.3 million people per day, would travel from the previous day (20th) to the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday (25th). This is an increase of 22.7% compared to last year’s Lunar New Year holiday average daily number of people traveling 4.32 million.
