4-year-old boy burns 90% of his body, suspected of being doused with gasoline by neighbors

Children’s Hospital 2 (HCMC) is receiving treatment for a very serious case of gasoline burns. The patient is a child YT (4 years old, from Kon Tum).

According to initial information, on the followingnoon of October 8, baby T. was led by his family to a wedding party. Because the baby was crying, the father took him home and continued drinking. At this time, the baby runs to the neighbor to play with you.

Around 4pm on the same day, a builder sitting on a high platform discovered that the baby’s whole body was on fire. The witness came to put out the fire and then called his family to take him to the hospital.

From the provincial hospital, at dawn on August 10, baby T. entered the Children’s Hospital 2. Here, the doctors diagnosed the child with gasoline burns on 90% of the body.

“I don’t know how my child and the neighbor’s baby (grade 3) made this mess. Gasoline is stored in the house by the neighbor’s family to run the lawn mower…”, T.’s father. speak.

To treat the baby, the doctors removed the entire skin of the father’s thigh to transplant it to the child. On January 16, the surgery was performed in 4 hours.

Mr. K. shared that he and his wife have 8 children, making a living from farming, so their income is very precarious. Knowing the difficult family situation, the hospital’s Social Work Department and sponsors helped with hospital expenses for the treatment of children. It is not known when T. can be discharged from the hospital.

Doctors warn, there have been many patients with severe burns when storing gasoline at home. In many cases, parents do not follow their children closely, let them play with gasoline and have a heartbreaking accident.

With gasoline burns, in addition to life-threatening risks, patients also face severe and prolonged sequelae such as shrinkage scars, body deformities, and mental and psychological effects.
