The Italian Sofia Goggia won the first descent on “her” snow in Cortina d’Ampezzo, a hair ahead of Ilka Stuhec (0″13). Kira Weidle completes the podium (0″36). With the exception of Lara Gut-Behrami (5th), the Swiss missed each other. Corinne Suter suffered a fall.
Big favorite, the Bergamasque did what was necessary to remove its 21st World Cup victory, the 16th in downhill. Not necessarily unbeatable, the Italian was however the most aggressive in the Scarpadon.
In the Swiss camp, Lara Gut-Behrami somewhat saved the Swiss record with her 5th place. But the Ticino did not manage to negotiate the Scarpadon like the Transalpine.
Corinne Suter in the background
It went much less well for Corinne Suter. Just following the Rumerlo, the Schwytzoise badly negotiated a landslide which threw her into the air. Logically groggy, the reigning world champion was however able to reach the finish on skis before heading into a tent for the first checks.
The other Swiss women are out of the top 15: Michelle Gisin 20th, Jasmine Flury 23rd, Joana Hählen 25th, Priska Nufer 26th, Delia Durrer 29th.
