Football: Juventus, Lazio and Atalanta advance to the Italian Cup
The Turinese beat Monza, the Romans defeated Bologna and the Bergamascos crushed Spezia in the round of 16.
Federico Chiesa found his way back to the net, 378 days following his last goal, to send Juventus to the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup at the expense of Monza (2-1), Thursday evening at the end of the eighth.
The Italian winger had not scored since January 6, 2022, just before a serious knee injury which kept him out of action until November.
Entering the hour mark, while Juve were hanging 1-1, Chiesa tore away on the left wing then transplanted in the axis to conclude with a sumptuous shot wrapped from the right (78th).
Lazio in quarters
Under the eyes of the new bianconero president, Gianluca Ferrero, elected on Wednesday to replace the resigning Andrea Agnelli, Juve, largely overhauled, had started perfectly thanks to a goal from the head of Moise Kean (8th).
But Monza can count on midfielder Mattia Valoti in the Cup, already a scorer in the two previous rounds, who kept the suspense alive by equalizing with a powerful header from a corner (24th).
Juventus, thanks to the decisive thrust of Chiesa, will meet in the quarterfinals Lazio Rome, who dominated Bologna (1-0) at the Stadio olimpico.
Spectacular Atalanta
In a match preceded by a new tribute to Sinisa Mihajlovic, icon of both teams, who died in December, Felipe Anderson scored the only goal of the game by taking advantage of a ball stolen by his teammate Pedro from Bolognese defender Joaquin Sosa.
In Bergamo, four days following the avalanche of goals once morest Salernitana (8-2), the tifosi of Atalanta were still treated to a great show with the clear victory of theirs once morest Spezia (5-2).
Thanks in particular to a double from his Nigerian striker Ademola Lookman, a good pick of the summer transfer window with already 11 goals scored in all competitions, the “Dea” will find in the quarter-finals, Inter Milan, defending champion.
The shifts will take place the week of January 30.
