Premier League | Led 2-0, Manchester City overthrows Tottenham with a great Riyad Mahrez

Manchester City is unsinkable. Five days following their defeat in the derby, the Skyblues came back from a two-goal gap on their lawn to finally win once morest Tottenham (4-2) in a late match of the 7th day of the Premier League, Thursday evening. Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland and Riyad Mahrez took the keys to the truck in the absence of several executives including Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne, left on the bench. Pep Guardiola’s men consolidate their second place and temporarily return to five points behind leaders Arsenal, while Tottenham sinks into crisis.

Riyad Mahrez is Manchester City’s in-form man. It’s no longer a guess, it’s a confirmation given the performance of the Algerian once morest Tottenham. The former Leicester player drove Ivan Perisic crazy in his right lane and Hugo Lloris lost on two of his attempts, the last of which, a sublime dive following poor control from Clément Lenglet, which ratified the success of the Skyblues (4-2, 90th). Thanks to their winger, they avoided a third loss in a row that would have been a stain for a defending champion.

It was rather badly started on the return from the locker room since they were trailing by two goals, scored in quick succession shortly before the break. Dominating but not in verve in front of the cage, Manchester City conceded the opener because of an error by Ederson. The Brazilian goalkeeper loves to play with fire, but he got burned on an axial raise towards Rodri while Rodrigo Bentancur was prowling, and Dejan Kulusevski was quick to punish him (0-1, 44th). Pep Guardiola’s header in his technical area spoke volumes regarding his disappointment, and his players finished him off seconds later by conceding a second goal on a defensive scramble, Ederson fending off a Harry Kane strike directly on the header from Emerson (0-2, 45th).
