With its Radeon RX 6900 XT, AMD wants to offer a graphics card ready to power 4K displays with any game, all graphics options enabled. Ultimate solution of the series, this model confronts the best GeForce RTX 30.
The Radeon RX 6900 XT is to be seen as a Radeon RX 6800 XT slightly boosted in number of processing units. It thus achieves a very good performance with games in 4K, provided that they are devoid of raytracing – in which case the 1440p is strongly recommended. With its discreet operation, this card might have been an interesting alternative to the GeForce RTX 3080but its lackluster raytracing performance might tip the scales in favor of Nvidia’s card for many gamers.
Points forts
- Performances 4K (rasterisation).
- Discreet ventilation.
- Fans off when board is idle.
- HDMI 2.1 video output.
- Support you raytracing.
Weak points
- Activation of raytracing which strongly impacts performance.
NB: The reported price drop is calculated by comparing the lowest price of the day with the average of the lowest prices charged by all merchants for the product last month, with security rules to exclude prices from shops whose the VAT policy is not clear (known as “grey” shops, typically in the case of imports from China).
An alternative
The GeForce RTX 3080 is an ideal graphics card for gaming in 4K. With it, Nvidia gives the possibility of running games in raytracing without a hitch in this definition yet so resource-intensive. And if the card has a heatsink as original as it is effective, you still have to keep in mind that it requires a minima a well-ventilated case, otherwise the noise pollution tends to take off.
