In our world today, great technological wars are raging between giant companies, wars driven by a frantic race to occupy the throne of the “electronic chips” or semiconductor industry that occupies the forefront in many technological industries, and they are microchips, but they are indispensable for the manufacture of all electronic products. It is technically one of the most important elements of life, due to its great energy efficiency and its widespread use in the manufacture of electronic devices such as computers, telephones, cars, home appliances, solar panels, and transistors that are used as switches in electrical circuits.
This is in addition to its importance in the manufacture of weapons and military equipment. Several elements are involved in the manufacture of these microchips, the most important of which is silicon. Therefore, the importance of Silicon Valley came, which is the most important headquarters for the largest global companies in the field of technology and the backbone of modern technological industries. It is also the reason for the tremendous scientific progress that humanity has reached since the invention of the transistor, which in turn changed the course of mankind since its invention in 1947.
The United States is intensifying its efforts and endeavors to impede China’s progress in the electronic chip industry, which is an essential element of global trade and an important stage in the economic project that China seeks to build with the “Belt and Road” initiative. Hence the economic importance of Taiwan and the conflict surrounding it, as Taiwan is one of the most important producers of electronic chips, as the Taiwanese company TSMC alone accounts for 65% of the electronic chip market around the world, and it is an important and articulated link in the semiconductor industries that are essential to emerging fifth generation technologies and the Internet objects and automation.
One aspect of the political dispute between China and America is related to Taiwan, which Beijing considers one of China’s provinces, which was also confirmed by Resolution No. 2758 of the United Nations General Assembly in 1971. Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, America has been trying to support Taiwan’s separation from the “homeland.” The Mother »through political provocations that seem to ignore history and its essence is domination and control.
We recall here the visit of former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan in August 2022, despite China’s warnings of the consequences of the visit. Apart from the economic importance of Taiwan, its restoration by China will allow Beijing to fully control the main passages for ships entering and leaving the East and South China Seas, which will deprive Washington’s allies in the region, led by Japan, from trade and supplies except through China.
It is not possible to predict the future of the conflict in its technological version between America and China over the technical treasure of electronic chips represented in Taiwan, but what we know very well is that China will not give up the principle of “one China”, which is a principle through which Beijing identifies friends and enemies, and on the basis of which it establishes relations and alliances with The countries of the world as a sovereign and historical right supported by major countries. What we can predict is that the importance of electronic chips will not diminish in the midst of the global technical race that is constantly advancing and on which most industries in our rapidly changing and transforming world depend on a more advanced and higher-performance digital life.
