The Geneva State Council does not want Eric Bauce as rector of Unige

Lack of network and anchorage in Switzerland, advanced age or even expensive program: despite the warning signals, the Assembly of the University of Geneva has persisted in a choice that does not correspond to the interests of the institution. This is essentially the scathing message that the Council of State sent on Wednesday by refusing the candidacy of Quebecer Eric Bauce for the post of rector to replace Yves Flückiger. After weeks of controversy and multiple pressures, the government’s decision is a slap in the face for the Assembly, which strongly supported the choice of the former executive vice-rector of Laval University, in Quebec, appointed by an absolute majority on 11 last January, despite the critical voices which would have preferred a candidate from the seraglio.
