The investigative and innovative strategy of the Jiménez Díaz Foundation University Hospital have led it to hold a referential role in the treatment and diagnosis of lung cancer and to top the rankings of the most prominent centers in both the fields of Pneumology and Oncology. A recognition that is not the result of chance, has stressed its head of the Pneumology Service, Maria Jesus Rodriguez, who has highlighted the efforts of his unit not only at the care level but also in terms of teaching and research. In this sense, he has valued the development of pioneering techniques in the Community of Madrid, especially in the field of early detection of this type of pathology.

Rodríguez has been in charge of projecting the main lines of activity of his Service at the inauguration of the Interhospital Conference on Pneumology from Madrid regarding the Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital, an event organized by Medical Writing in collaboration with Oximesa Nippon Gases and the sponsorship of the Pneumomadrid Foundation.
In the inaugural act, the president-publisher of Medical Writing, Jose Maria Pino; and the president of the Madrid Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery-Neumomadrid, Francisco Javier Garciawho has highlighted the need to advance in the early diagnosis of lung cancer, the third most diagnosed tumor in Spain only behind colorectal and breast cancer; and the neoplasia that kills the most globally.

“Less than 20 percent of lung cancer cases are diagnosed in curable stagesIt is a challenge that we pulmonologists have in common”, pointed out García. In this sense, he has highlighted the work carried out in a hospital “so emblematic, prestigious and relevant” such as that of the Jiménez Díaz Foundation, which pioneering strategies in the region in the treatment of this disease.
José María Pino has also valued the trajectory of the hospital: “It is one of the oldest hospitals and, without a doubt, one of the most prestigious in the Community of Madrid. And, of course, the flagship of the Quirón Group , at least in Pulmonology”.
In fact, the Madrid center has among its main lines of action the development of new techniques for addressing the disease, such as the one represented by the Early Detection of Lung Cancerthe call Deprecapwhich according to María Jesús Rodríguez focuses on the diagnosis of the tumor in its early stages.

A series of tools that, according to Rodríguez, complement the respiratory intermediate care unit (UCRI), a service “very much in vogue” and with “very high efficiency in the field of respiratory failure”; as well as that of interventional bronchoscopy.
