University of Michigan President Santa Ono announced that Jim Harbaugh remains the Wolverines’ head football coach. These three NFL teams missed it.
This year once more, Jim Harbaugh flirted with a return to the NFL, eight years following being fired by the San Francisco 49ers. Last year, he interviewed with the Minnesota Vikings for the head coach job, but returned to Michigan to lead the program to its second straight appearance in the College Football Playoff Semifinals. This year, Harbaugh once once more contemplated a return to the NFL.
Well, Harbaugh won’t be leaving Ann Arbor, Michigan, following all…once once more.
University of Michigan President Santa Ono announced Monday (January 16) that Harbaugh has informed him that he will remain the Wolverines’ head football coach. Harbaugh released a statement soon following, saying his “heart is in the University.”
Five teams have been looking for a new head coach since Harbaugh’s announcement. Three teams in particular missed the opportunity to sign Harbaugh, who has proven his ability to win at the NFL level and build quarterbacks.
The Denver Broncos missed Jim Harbaugh.
The Denver Broncos were the only NFL team to set up an interview with Harbaugh this season. In fact, they were the only ones to request an interview with him. However, they must officially strike Harbaugh’s name from their list of candidates for the position of head coach.
Denver is desperate to hire the right head coach following missing out last season on signing former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. The team was supposed to fight for the AFC West title with Russell Wilson as quarterback. Instead, they went 4-11, Wilson seemingly regressed, Hackett had issues with clock management, and the offense was among the worst in the league. After a 51-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at Christmas, Hackett was fired the next day following just 15 games.
With the team on a long-term contract with Wilson due to his contract, the Broncos need to hire the right head coach to get the best out of the team, not just the quarterback. Harbaugh has a winning record at the NFL level, going 44-19-1 in the regular season and 5-3 in the playoffs.
Denver is linked to former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and current Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
