Delhi: Pathan is a film that created a lot of controversies days before its release. But following overcoming all these difficulties, Pathan is getting ready for release on January 25. After a long time, Shahrukh is coming as the hero in the action film, which is the main focus of Pathan. Deepika Padukone and John Abraham are playing the lead roles.
But a directive given to the makers of Pathan by the Delhi High Court is now in the news. The Delhi High Court on Monday directed the makers of the film, Yashraj Films, to prepare audio description, subtitles and closed captions in the Hindi version of the film when it releases Pathan OTT so that the visually impaired can enjoy it.
The High Court’s order came while considering a petition demanding that blind and hearing impaired people should be given an opportunity to watch Pathan movies as per the rights guaranteed under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
The petition was heard by a single bench of Justice Pratibha Singh. This writ petition also raises very important issues regarding recreational facilities for the visually impaired. Under Section 42 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the government has an obligation to take steps to ensure that all content is available in accessible formats to persons with disabilities.
Special facilities need to be provided for the hearing impaired and visually impaired to enjoy movies. Because the experience of watching a movie in a movie theater cannot be denied to such people, the court said while considering the petition.
But the court has not given any special instructions during the theatrical release of Pathan movie. The High Court directed Yashraj Films to prepare audio description, subtitles and closed captions in Hindi within two weeks and submit it to CBFC for approval. If it is submitted by February 20, the film’s censor board will consider it and issue a certificate. The High Court directed the Censor Board to take a decision on the matter by March 10.
A law student, two lawyers and a disability rights activist filed the petition seeking the right to watch the film. Yashraj Films, OTT platform Amazon PrimeVideo and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment was also a party to the petition.
Pathan is a film directed by director Siddharth Anand, who made Salaam Namaste, Anjana Anjani, Bang Bang and War. Dimple Kapadia, Shaji Chaudhary, Gautham, Ashutosh Rana and others also star. Shahrukh had done a lot of preparations for the film, which has a lot of action scenes. Salman Khan’s guest appearance is also a factor that makes the film remarkable. Apart from Hindi, Pathan will also hit the theaters in Tamil and Telugu versions.
Salman stepped down from hosting Bigg Boss for the time being; coming instead.
