In the issue issued for the month of January, UFC-Que Choisir was able to compare the composition of certain products. But, while these products remain categorized as no added sugar and therefore less caloric, the magazine does not really seem to agree. Madame Figaro points out, these products seem almost oilier than others. We’ll explaine everything here.

UFC-Que Choisir, its verdict

UFC-Que Choisir has decided to look on many low fat products. These are said to be without added sugar so they seem less caloric. And yet, the magazine seems to find these products fatter than others.. Madame Figaro indicates that these light products remain far from their promise.

More and more in stores, we can see many products finding a so-called lightened drift. Whether it seems to be bread, yoghurts, sauces, drinks, fruit juices, etc. If the name lightened occurs, it remains in relation to sugar. Indeed, consuming too much sugar can quickly prove to be bad for your health.. Many diseases result from it such as weight problems, diabetes or even heart problems. So these so-called products without added sugar are healthier and less caloric. But, the UFC-Que Choisir, following investigation, does not seem to agree with this point.

Less sweet, but worse products

UFC-Que Choisir therefore declared “Watch out for traps” in the face of all these products without added sugar. Indeed, when the magazine was able to compare many products with each other, it turns out that it is not the lighter ones that win the palme d’or for the healthiest. But beyond not always being healthier, the association has even found some that are worse for your health. Brands seem to play on words. If they do offer products without added sugar, there is indeed less sugar. But the latter is compensated by much worse ingredients. We find the example of fats which come to explode the caloric intake.

UFC-Que Choisir takes the example of the Karéléa chocolate bar by the Léa Nature brand. This last contains 47% more fat than its Lindt version. There is also cereal filled with peanut butter from the Funky Veggie brand. They contain 42% more fat. But the first prize obviously goes to the sandwich bread from the organic Boulangère brand. The latter is without added sugar, but has nearly 121% more fat.

Salt, replacing sugar?

But when it does not remain the fats which come to replace the sugar, it can be the salt. Indeed, the association UFC-Que Choisir highlights it well. If salt sometimes replaces sugar, it can also be bad elements for the intestinal flora. We find the example of additivesas the sucralose, acesulfame K or the famous aspartame.

Moreover, the UFC-Que Choisir reveals the presence of these, especially in Light and Free yoghurts, Zero peach iced tea from Auchan or even 0% mint syrup from Carrefour. Also, be aware that no added sugar does not mean sugar free.. For example, product ingredients may have high sugar content on their own. This is found in cans, fruit, energy bars, and even some drinks.

Positive all the same for UFC-Que Choisir

But the UFC-Que Choisir was still able to salute certain products which seem to keep their promise. We find light fruit jams which, to compensate for the sugar, put more fruit. Or even the products of the Mueslis brand which seem irreproachable for health according to the statements of the association.
