Baghdad / Obelisk: Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani affirmed, on Monday 16/01/2023, the government’s direction to open horizons of cooperation with friendly countries in a way that secures the interests of the Iraqi people.
The media office of the Prime Minister said, in a statement received by Al-Masalla, that the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, received the White House Coordinator for Middle East and North Africa Affairs, Brett McGurk, an envoy of US President Joseph Biden, pointing out that the meeting witnessed a discussion of the overall relations between Iraq. And the United States, and ways to strengthen and develop it at various levels and fields, in a way that serves the interests of the Iraqi and American peoples.
The Prime Minister affirmed, according to the statement, the government’s direction to open horizons of cooperation with friendly and brotherly countries, in a way that secures the interests of the Iraqi people, stressing the ability of our security forces to confront terrorism and stabilize the stability achieved thanks to the huge sacrifices made on the land of Iraq.
For his part, McGurk affirmed his country’s support for the success of the current government, and the United States’ continuation in providing advice to Iraqi forces in their fight once morest ISIS, reiterating the US administration’s commitment to the strategic framework agreement, and supporting the Iraqi government’s reforms in the field of energy and infrastructure and confronting climate change.
The statement added that McGurk conveyed his country’s welcome to the outcomes of the Baghdad Conference / 2, and efforts to develop joint infrastructure projects between Iraq and its surroundings, and its welcome to the upcoming visit of Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to Washington to hold meetings of the Supreme Coordinating Committee of the strategic framework agreement between the two countries.
He added that the meeting was attended by the Special Presidential Coordinator for Global Infrastructure and Energy Security, Amos Hochstein, and the US Ambassador to Baghdad, Alina Romanowski.
