Agadir: the redevelopment of the cornice is behind schedule

At the time when the SDL Agadir Souss-Massa Aménagement launched two calls for tenders relating to the rue de la plage and its peripheral arteries as well as to the market for the works of planting, the watering system and maintenance of the cornice of Agadir, the other development and equipment operations of the cornice of Agadir are still slow to see the light of day.

In the continuity of the works undertaken within the framework of the traffic plan and the roads of the tourist and seaside sector, the Local Development Company (SDL) Agadir Souss-Massa Aménagement launched the call for tenders relating to the rue de la beach and its peripheral arteries which connects the roundregarding of the August 20 boulevard to the marina of Agadir. The estimate of the cost of the services, established by the contracting authority within the framework of the project for the redevelopment and upgrading of the cornice of the bay and the tourist area of ​​the city of Agadir, was set at the sum of 9 MDH.

This lot, which also includes the repair of existing public toilets, adds to the road works and their public lighting and green spaces already carried out along the boulevard du 20 Aout, Rue Oued Souss and Chemin des dunes. While this work will require a period of six months, including the period of preparation and installation of the site, SDL Agadir Souss-Massa Aménagement has launched, at the same time, the contract for planting works, the watering system and maintenance of the Agadir cornice up to 3 MDH. The work will be carried out at various sites in the city of Agadir. They include, among other things, the pruning of existing trees and palm trees in addition to the stump removal of trees and the installation of the irrigation system and transmitters as well as the planting of trees, palm trees, shrubs and lawn. It is also regarding plant replacement work. The two contracts will be awarded from the end of this month of January 2023.

The details of the projects by component
The fact remains that the development works of the Agadir corniche, strictly speaking, are still slow to see the light of day in accordance with the initial schedule set within the framework of the PDU 2020-2024, in particular the development of sports and recreational facilities. of proximity, in addition to the reinforcement of street furniture and the rehabilitation of the cornice. Added to this is the installation of public facilities and the construction of the Timitar museum, the tourist information center and the administrative complex of the beach.

Currently, work is continuing at the level of the belvedere garden over more than 2 ha while the construction operations of the Bijaouane underground car park in the city of Agadir, in particular the first lot relating to the demolition and deviations of the existing networks, have been declared unsuccessful pending their relaunch. In addition, the estimate of this project is approximately 120 MDH. It will have 1,573 places, including 723 above ground and 850 underground. As for the municipal swimming pool and its annexes, they will also be moved within the framework of a logic of integration of this space with the cornice of the city, but also in connection with the other spaces.

As a reminder, the third component relating to the Agadir Urban Development Program, for the period 2020-2024, required the mobilization of a financial envelope of around 460 MDH. It relates in particular to urban development and the impetus of the tourist area of ​​Agadir and also to a portfolio of 11 structuring projects.

Tourism performance: assessment of the first 11 months of 2022

In addition, the recovery rate of the Agadir destination reached the equivalent of 83% and 71% in terms of arrivals and overnight stays compared to the reference year of 2019. During the first 11 months of 2022, the classified hotels of the destination of Agadir welcomed 923,408 tourists in 2022 once morest 516,256 nationals during the same period of 2021. In comparison with the first eleven of 2019, that is to say from January to November, the seaside resort had welcomed more than 1.1 million arrivals, representing a recovery rate of 83% compared to the reference year preceding the Covid health crisis. Turning to overnight stays, the figures show the destination is back to regarding 71% of its 2019 tourism performance since the relaunch of flights last February.

In this sense, the cumulative overnight stays in classified hotels in the Agadir destination recorded 3.6 million overnight stays from January to November 2022 once morest 5 million during the same period of 2019 and 1.6 million overnight stays during the first eleven months of the year 2021 within the destination’s classified accommodation establishments. By main markets, the distribution of arrivals and overnight stays during the first 11 months of 2022 shows that the national market has already exceeded the performance of 2019 by recording the arrival of 452,919 internal tourists from January to November 2022 once morest 436,794 nationals accumulated throughout 2019, i.e. an increase already of 3.56% one month before the end of 2022. On the other hand, the traditional markets, in particular French, English, German and Belgian, are still not completely recover their pre-crisis performance.
