Will Jakob Poeltl still be in San Antonio after the Trade Deadline?

The rankings are tight. Some teams don’t have to make adjustments – at least they won’t, at the risk of strengthening a competitor. The Trade Deadline of next February 9 therefore promises to be… less animated than the previous ones. But among the players able to pack up in a Colissimo in the direction of a new franchise, Jakob Poeltl is one of the most interesting profiles.

And there, Victor Wembanyama join the game.

How is it that we talk regarding the French prospect in a paper dedicated to Jakob Poeltl? Imagine that the situation in the Austrian interior depends on that of Wemby. If Spurs draw the 1st pick at the lottery from the 2023 Draft, there is no doubt that they will select the Frenchman. But according to Adrian Wojnarowski – and we might have guessed it alone – “it would be quite logical to place Jakob Poeltl in pivot with Wembanyama on position 4”. Ugh, the association promises. It’s a bit like what the Mets 92 do: stick a large, very vertical pivot under the circle, the perfect fulcrum for Victor, and ask him to stick to his role. There was Ibrahima Fall Faye, there is Anzejs Pasecniks, there may be Jakob Poeltl.

But suddenly, what is the link with the Trade Deadline? Still according to the Woj, “Poeltl is of interest to a lot of teams who will make offers serious enough for San Antonio to want to trade him”. Austrian’s contract ends see you next summer, and if Spurs management gives up on its interior, then we’ll find out before the Trade Deadline gongs. Rather see him go once morest a package than in English.

A chance to stay? Yes and no. This season, Jakob Poeltl is eligible for an extension of 58 million over four years. If he’s waiting for the Free Agency, he’s bound to have better offers from teams with more… significant ambitions. His defensive impact – despite the recent dynamite planted by Ja Morant above his skull – guarantees it.
