For the short Prog Metal Shot, the Finns serve us from Vanguardian now something very nice. In the form of their second EP II: The Heretic the four musicians from the far north go into modern prog metal realms. And that too in the form of a chic collector’s item in the form of a limited edition vinyl.
Although himself Vanguardian have written modern Prog Metal on the flags, so they confess to analogue production methods to pay homage to their role models. And they certainly succeed in doing so in four compact statements. Razor-sharp vocals round off the power trio sound.
The listener gets to hear quite complex songs, like the tip Pantheon proves that you HERE can check out and which definitely shows atmosphere. The opener is great and a bit sharper Back to Stone Age, whose rhythm is very varied and interesting, like you HERE is proven.
Prog Metal newcomers on the way to the top
The songs on offer are short yet complex, boasting juicy guitars and delicate rhythm work, and they inspire a certain anticipation for a full-time album, for which this second EP certainly laid the groundwork.
Apart from the brevity, of course, there isn’t much to criticize. The known size Ansi Kippo The supported production can definitely be heard and is absolutely transparent and powerful. The disc should, like that of its predecessors I: The Witchhammer, arouse the interest of fans of robust Prog Metal.
Conclusion
The second EP of the Finnish Prog Metal newcomers Vanguardian testifies on his second EP II: The Heretic of great class and arouses curiosity for more. 8,5 / 10
