Following the UFC Vegas 67 event, Dana White, president of the UFC, faced the media and announced that Jon Jones will face Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 for the company’s heavyweight title, confirming that the belt was stripped to Francis Ngannou.
As if that were not enough, White himself pointed out that as of today Francis Ngannou is no longer a UFC fighter. In concise words, the UFC boss said that “Ngannou is a free agent”, which means that he is no longer under contract with the company and that he can negotiate with any other MMA company or if he prefers to jump to the boxing.
Faced with the siege of journalists and the great question regarding whether the UFC would continue negotiating with Francis Ngannou, Dana White declared that “We are going to release (Francis Ngannou) from his contract. We waive the right to match. He can go where he wants and do what he wants.”
