Alsa will no longer produce its famous pink sachets of baking powder in France

Bought by the Italian group Newlat, the Ludres factory in Meurthe-et-Moselle, relocated to Germany, will no longer produce the famous pink sachets of Alsa brand baking powder.

The end of an era. The Dr Oetcker group has sold the Ludres plant to the Italian group Newlat. An effective sale since January 1st. From now on, Alsa baking powder sachets will be produced in Germany.

The factory was gradually preparing for this change. Indeed, since 2021, the Dr Oetcker group has already been gradually relocating its production toGermany.

Founded in 1897 in Nancy by Émilie Moench, the Alsa brand has always been produced in Meurthe-et-Moselle. This change has therefore caused the sadness of residents and employees.

“Here we all have pink blood,” even testified a union delegate from the Ludres factory, who wished to remain anonymous, to AFP.

The Newlat group plans to invest 20 million euros in Ludres to keep the hundred employees present on the site, and to resume the production of yeast and cake preparations as well. This is the first time that the Italian group has set up in France.
