2 years; 1,000 electric charging station

Doha: 1,000 high-speed electric vehicle charging stations will be built by 2025 as part of achieving environmental and sustainability goals.

By the end of the year, 150 electric vehicle charging stations will be installed. The project is under Tarsheed, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation’s (Kahrama) national project to ensure energy efficiency.

Last year, around 100 vehicle charging stations were installed for the FIFA World Cup, said Engineer Mohammad Khaled Al Sharshani, Head of Tarsheed Technical Department. As part of sustainable policies, more than 700 electric buses have been arranged for the World Cup.

The aim is to establish between 600 and 1,000 high-speed vehicle charging stations by 2025. This is in partnership with Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Ministry of Transport and Broadcasting. Currently, 25 percent of public transport facilities are electric buses and taxis. By 2030, the aim is to convert all buses into e-vehicles and ensure environmental protection with less carbon emissions.

Kahrama and Voquod have signed an agreement to install 37 e-vehicle charging units at 22 stations of Qatar fuel company Voquod. These units take less than half an hour to charge a car. For the first time in FIFA’s history, Qatar hosted the World Cup with the largest number of electric buses for visitors. It aims to protect future generations through less carbon emissions of vehicles, eco-friendly and sustainable public transport system.
