SteenokkerzeelIn Steenokkerzeel, thieves crashed into the garden of an apartment building on Friday evening during a chase. They then jumped out of the car, but were chased by a local resident. When they wanted to jump into a garden, they left behind a safe. The police deployed large resources and two suspects have now been caught.
“It is true that thieves crashed into a garden in Blockmanstraat with a car,” said Steenokkerzeel’s mayor Kurt Ryon (Klaver/N-VA). One of the local residents heard the blow and suddenly saw three men scrambling out of the car, following which they ran. “I then followed the three,” says the neighbor. “They tried to flee through different gardens and when they wanted to jump over a fence, they suddenly left a safe behind.”
The police then arrived en masse and, according to Ryon, two of the three suspects were caught. This is also confirmed by the KASTZE police zone. “It concerned two people with Albanian nationality,” says Chief of Police Filip Van Steenbergen. “Our teams will continue to monitor this night and are ready to intervene immediately if suspicious situations are reported.”
The crashed car, a Volvo with Dutch license plates, is also being investigated. The safe would come from a burglary in Kortenberg.
