Xboxes become the first “carbon-sensitive” consoles

Microsoft spoke once more earlier this week regarding the giant’s actions in favor of the environment. After several measures put in place since last March, Xbox has reached a new detailed level in a post on the Wire. With it, it is no longer just the carbon emissions linked to the production or distribution of the brand’s products, but also those created by the use of said products.

So that includes our consoles. Updates that have been pushed to Insider members. Thanks to it, our Xbox Series X|S are the first consoles “to offer carbon-conscious game downloads and updates. » Thus, when the console is plugged in, connected to the Internet and « regional carbon intensity data » are available, the consoles will automatically schedule game, application and system updates on the least energy-consuming time windows.

In parallel, another addition is made, this time on console shutdown. Indeed, a new “Off (power saving)” mode has appeared for Insiders. An addition that will be pushed to the entire range of Xbox consoles. Good point, this mode will not affect remote play capabilities.

Shoulders of Giants will be released on January 26.
