Benjamin Mendy found not guilty of six rapes

The prosecutor has indicated that he will request a new trial on these last two counts. Aged 28, the French international defender, suspended for more than a year by his Manchester City club, had been on trial since early August at the Chester court. Accused of seven rapes, an attempted rape and a sexual assault, he risked life imprisonment.

Soon to be retried

French footballer Benjamin Mendy will be retried from June 26 in England for rape and attempted rape, two charges on which a popular jury failed to agree following five months of hearings.

Judge Steven Everett of the court in Chester, in the north of England, told the French international defender, suspended by Manchester City, on Friday that a preliminary hearing would take place on January 27 before two to three weeks of trial from the June 26 next.
