In his first QMJHL return game since winning the World Junior Championship for Canada, Joshua Roy had a goal and three assists in the Sherbrooke Phoenix’s 7-0 win over the Cape Breton Eagles on Thursday.
Jacob Melanson had two goals and an assist as the Phoenix posted a fifth straight win.
Goalkeeper Olivier Adam only needed 15 saves to complete the shutout.
After a quiet first period, Ethan Gauthier opened the scoring in the second.
Montreal Canadiens prospect Joshua Roy then doubled his team’s lead a few minutes later on a breakaway.
Then he assisted on goals by Jacob Melanson and Marc-André Gaudet, who hit the puck in midair to score.
The avalanche of goals continued in the third as Cole Huckins, Maxime Côté and Melanson all rattled the ropes in less than 2 minutes of play.
That’s when Eagles goaltender Oliver Satny gave way to Nicolas Ruccia following giving up seven times on 36 shots. Ruccia finished the game with seven saves.
The Mooseheads win a duel at the top once morest the Remparts
Cameron Whynot made the difference in the shootout and the Halifax Mooseheads beat the Quebec Remparts 2-1, in a duel involving the two best teams in the QMJHL.
In the fourth round of the shootout, Nathan Gaucher scored for the Remparts, but under pressure, Jordan Dumais added to the suspense. Mooseheads goaltender Mathis Rousseau shut the door on Cam Thomson before Whynot tricked William Rousseau.
Whynot’s goal gave the Mooseheads a fourth straight win. However, the Halifax troops have not lost in regulation time in their last 14 outings (12-0-2).
The Remparts, who sit first in the QMJHL standings, eight points ahead of the Mooseheads, still got at least one point in a fifth game in a row (3-0-2).
Alexandre Doucet, who was celebrating his 21st birthday, opened the scoring shorthanded with his 34th goal of the season, a record in the Courteau circuit. The forward has scored at least one goal in his six games with the Mooseheads.
James Malatesta took just 58 seconds to allow the Remparts to tie the first period, but the two teams were unable to decide before the shootout.
Mathis Rousseau finished the game with 32 saves for the Mooseheads while William Rousseau blocked 23 shots for Patrick Roy’s men.
The Olympiques have the last word on the Armada
Cam MacDonald ended the debate in overtime in a 4-3 victory for the Gatineau Olympiques over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
The recent acquisition of the Olympiques Riley Kidney collected two assists. He has five points in three games since the Olympiques acquired him from the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
Olivier Nadeau, Zachary Dean and Samuel Lavoie scored for the Olympiques.
Olivier Tourchot, Jonathan Fauchon and Xavier Sarrasin hit the mark for the Armada.
The Drakkar come from behind once morest the poor Sea Dogs
Charles-Antoine Dumont threaded the needle on two occasions and the Baie-Comeau Drakkar defeated the Saint-Jean Sea Dogs 5-3.
The Sea Dogs forged a 3-2 lead, but the Drakkar scored three unanswered goals to win.
Charles-Thomas Larochelle, Marc-Antoine Séguin and Justin Poirier were the other scorers for the Drakkar.
Peter Reynolds, Danny Akkouche and Alexis Cournoyer hit the mark for the Sea Dogs, who have lost their last four games. Akkouche was also the author of two assists.
The Sea Dogs are in last place in the QMJHL standings with 28 points in 39 games.
