Turkish Defense Minister called for a cease-fire in Ukraine

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar called, during a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Alexei Reznikov, for an immediate declaration of a ceasefire in Ukraine.

According to the Turkish Ministry of Defense statement: “During the call, the Turkish Minister of Defense stressed the need for an immediate declaration of a ceasefire in order to avoid further loss of life.”

Akar also indicated that “his country will continue its efforts to establish peace in the region, stressing the importance of continuing the grain deal.”

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu confirmed that his country believes that the war in Ukraine will end at the negotiating table.

In response to a question regarding the Ukrainian crisis, he indicated, “We are committed to achieving peace and a cease-fire. Our goal is a just peace. We believe that this war will end at the negotiating table, and for this reason we are making a great effort in this direction.”

The Turkish Foreign Minister pointed out that, “Last year, Russia expressed its willingness to engage in the negotiation process, and Ukraine proposed a 10-point plan,” adding that “Turkey supports dialogue between the two parties and is ready to mediate in this process.”
